BE BRAVE – The True Story of Daniel Northcott

BE BRAVE – The True Story of Daniel Northcott

Today I decided to interrupt my #40DaysofLove Campaign, to bring you all an inspiring story about a young man and his sister.

From Be Brave – The true story of Daniel Northcott

A brother’s dying wish. A sister’s undying promise. Watch the video above to hear the story of Daniel Northcott and his message of unity for the world.

“The real miracle is not flying through the air or walking on water, it is to walk upon the Earth at all.”

Bursting with unquenchable curiosity and a boundless love for life, Daniel Northcott was a one-of-a-kind filmmaker.  Barely 20, he set out on a decade-long quest to travel the world, spreading his infectious enthusiasm across four continents and dozens of cultures. Through ruins and cities, war zones and sacred sites, he captured each precious moment on camera with an eye for colorful characters of every age and description.

In April of 2007, Dan’s journey led him to a greater adventure than he had ever imagined.  Despite warnings of an ancient curse, he brought home a bone from a sacrificial Mayan burial cave in Yucatán, and just months later he was diagnosed with leukemia – cancer of the bone marrow.

When Daniel learned 8 years into his film project that he had only months to live he began a race to complete his unfinished film. Amazingly, he continued to document every detail of the roller-coaster ride that followed —from the doctor delivering the crushing news to every intense medical procedure, losing his hair, and intimate moments with friends and family.

With over a thousand hours of footage and no energy or time left he made a 40-minute sketch of the film he dreamed to make and left the footage in his will to his sister Erin Northcott. His last wish was to request she oversee the completion of his legacy, his film.

Shifting into 2013

2012 was a special year.

Special for my life. Special for our world and planet.

What comes to mind when one says 2012?

2012 was a year of tragic events. A senseless school shooting in Newtown, Connecticut (for my thoughts on this, see The Last Day).  A hideous gang rape and beating of a beautiful girl in India. The strange wave of natural disasters blasting our earth, such as was in the case of Hurricane Sandy. Hurricanes up north in New York and New Jersey?

What is happening to our world? What is happening with our planet?

Oh and say 2012 and what else comes to mind?

A little thing called “The End of The World”, predicted by ancient Mayans.

It seems that the world was filled with fear and violence.

And so was our very own planet, rocked by the violence of natural disasters. Tsunamis in odd places. Earthquakes everywhere.

Our Earth was hurting. Our Earth’s citizens were hurting.

But that is the fear-based thinking our media promotes.

If you followed the spiritual currents and discussions, a special Shift was happening.

A Shift filled with the higher frequencies of Love and Light.

A Shift passed through a wave of awakening humans, sharing love and light, spreading messages of joy and bliss.

A simple message anyone and everyone on our planet could share:

 WE are ONE.

Over and over, this message has been beamed all across our planet and out into the stars, through our hearts and minds,

Although many people laughed about the Mayan Prophecy, when the end of the world they thought it meant did not happen.

But the Mayan Prophecy did not signify the End of the World.

Distortions of the original Mayan predictions were interpreted as the end of the world, when the Mayans actually said it would be the start of a new era in their long-count Mayan calendar.

Want to know more?

Check out what NASA says on the subject:
Why the World Didn’t End Yesterday

The true meaning of the Mayan Prophecy was the End of the World As We Knew It, and the Beginning of a New Era.

For many months, those following the spiritual currents across the world, as I have, have known that a special Shift was taking place. Soulful travelers and lightworkers such as myself have been participating in this Shift.

What is this Shift?

The Shift is about people waking up and deciding to awaken their personal power and expand their consciousness.

But The Shift is also about people leaving the lower and negative frequencies emanating from our fear-based societies, leaving all fear behind, and focusing energies on transmitting unconditional LOVE and LIGHT. Filling our hearts and minds with that LOVE and LIGHT. And sharing that LOVE and LIGHT with fellow soul travelers.

The Shift is also about sharing that HEART FREQUENCY with our planet, GAIA, and healing the wounds of our hurting planet Earth.

I would say a really great thing happened with the Mayan Prophecy.

EVERYONE across the earth was focused on this Mayan phenomenon, a SPIRITUAL phenomenon. Thousands of people became curious about a SPIRITUAL phenomenon, and maybe – just maybe – some of those people woke up to wanting more meaning in their spiritual lives.

Now that is a great thought!

Let us thank the Mayans for making our Earth Citizens think about their lives and the meaning in it!

My dream would be that The Shift in human consciousness that is occurring through thousands will expand more and more, and more humans will share LOVE.

Enough LOVE to heal us all from the hurts of the earth, more LOVE to heal us all of the violence of our most terrible news stories that have hit our communities.

As part of this NEW POSITIVE ENERGY, I have revamped the links on my blogs to include fresh, new categories:
Fellow Soul Travelers, Inspirational Links, and Montreal Inspirational Resources

I hope you enjoy reading the people and links that have inspired me!

What a wonderful world it would be if our world became a LOVE-BASED place, instead of a fear-based place filled with violence.

AMEN to that.

Blessed be.

*Being* In The Flow & 3 Universal Laws: Agreement, Resistance, and Attraction

For some time I have been turning pieces of this blog around in my mind.

I came up with 3 Universal Laws, which shape my very own day-to-day life, and Laws which I see others struggling with, in their own lives. The lives of my loved ones, the lives of strangers. Laws of the Universe that truly apply to everyone, wherever they may be on their Life Path.

Two Laws are laws I have coined myself:
The Law of Agreement
The Law of Resistance

You may find other versions of them on the Internet. But I have specifically coined them for behaviors and relationships I have experienced in my life – and witnessed in the lives of others.

And a very popular and well-known Law of The Universe:
The Law of Attraction

Well that has existed since the beginning of Time. I myself have decided to apply that particular law since 2011. Especially after having absorbed the many lessons in The Secret, and manifesting great abundance and precious moments in my life.

*BEING* In The Flow

What do these 3 Laws have to do with *being* in the flow?
What do I mean by *being* in the flow?

It is a simple thing really.

You are *being* in the flow when everything in your life falls into place.

You are learning the lessons you need to learn, in order to evolve as a human being and soul traveler. You are living in the NOW. You appreciate the lessons that the past taught you, but are happy to leave the past in the past. You are neither fearing nor anticipating the future. You trust that The Universe will unfold a future just as it should unfold.

Every person who enters and stays in your life, feels right and right for you. You appreciate each other, when you are *being* in the flow.

The flow is the flow of time, of place, of existence.

Many synchrolicious synchronicities may be happening while you are being in the flow. Those precious moments make your heart smile and make you feel blessed.

And now onto the 3 Laws.

Really, all the relationships you have with people in your life have these 3 elements involved.

The Law Of Agreement
1.    In order for something to exist in your life,
you made an agreement for it to be in your life
2.    In order for someone to exist in your life,
you made an agreement with each other to be in each other’s lives.

Things exist in your life, for better or worse.

Happy things come into your life with your embracing them, of course.

But sometimes, things become unhealthy addictions (ie food, drugs, alcohol) that can plague you. But yet they still remain. Why? Because there is a part of you who still gets a hit or fix, from it existing in your life. As long as one little part of you still embraces it, you will continue to embrace your agreement with its existence.

But YOU can choose to say NO to that thing. But you must be sure to remove every little part of the you that embraces it. You can banish it once & for all by simply BREAKING that Agreement. Say: “NO, I do not agree to your existence in my life!” Not easy perhaps. But it is your CHOICE.

We also make Agreements with each and EVERY ONE of the people in our lives.

Yes, even with FAMILY. What, you may say, I was BORN into this family, I didn’t choose them? Well, that is a subject for another blog – choosing your earth family.

But you DO make an Agreement to have family members in your lives.

YOU always have a choice whether to allow someone to be in your life. Just as they also choose to have you in their life.

Time and time again, I have seen people being angry and hurt with various people in their lives. Family. Lovers. Friends. And more.

But they forget that there is an Agreement in effect.

YOU can choose each person in your life. YOU can also choose the nature of the Agreement that exists between you both! WHAT do you want to share with this person? Does this person still add positive value to your daily life? Are they good to you? Do they appreciate you? Do you appreciate them?

EACH person is responsible for creating – and maintaining – a relationship with another human being.

Are you both still living up to that Agreement? Take a little test once in awhile of the relationship. Does it still benefit both of you?

When a relationship becomes one-sided or unbalanced, it is time to take a hard look and make a decision about whether you will tolerate its continued existence in your life.

We all need to do this. I do it with every relationship or friendship in my life. And I am brutally honest with my own self in the process. In what relationships have I broken our mutual Agreement?

Now if someone comes into your life WITHOUT your permission, and continues to try to BE in your life, it is important to say to yourself – and to that person:

“HEY I never AGREED for this person to be in my life.
YOU need to go!”

Life is too short to have any people around us who we do NOT want in our lives.

This is not an exercise in ego. It is an exercise in truth and living with integrity.

Which brings me to my second Law.

The Law of Resistance
1.    Is someone often pushing or pulling at you
to get your attention?

2.    Are you often the person pushing or pulling at someone
to get their attention?

When there is a RESISTANCE of some kind like that, there is a need to evaluate whether or not a relationship or friendship has become/or was always only one-sided.

There is a simple test:
If one person is doing ALL the work to get some attention, then the relationship or friendship is NOT working.

If it is YOU trying to get someone’s attention all the time, ask yourself this:
”WHY is it so important to me to get this person’s attention?
If they WANTED me to be in their life, they would pay attention to me.”

You most likely have people who DO pay attention to you. Why not focus on the people who do so, who appreciate your presence in your life?

Forcing someone to pay attention to you only makes you feel more and more hurt feelings and resentments. Why should you have such bad feeling in your life? Focus on the people who ARE interested in you and who DO show they care about you.

If someone is pushing and pulling at you, time and time again to get YOUR attention, why are you NOT paying attention to them?

Do you have some unresolved feelings of guilt? Well, talk it out with them. You would be surprised how people will appreciate your honesty.

Are you simply busy? Or not paying attention due to other real-time demands? Then let them know – and let them know you will get back to them later, so they know you still want them to be in your life.

Is the relationship or friendship something you no longer want in your life?
Make a decision about what to do about that. And act on your decision.

Is it because you NEVER agreed to have this person in your life?

Well then, be CLEAR and DIRECT and tell them NO, you will not tolerate them in your life.

Sometimes being polite will not work with someone who refuses to get the message or who will misinterpret your politeness if you are not interested in them.

Life is too short to put up with anything else!

The energy you put into the relationships and friendships in your life are also crucial.

Which is where the final Law comes into effect.

The Law of Attraction

The energy you put into The Universe,
is the energy you get back from The Universe. Therefore:

1.    If you focus on the positive in your life,
positive energy comes back to you.
2.    If you focus on the negative in your life,
negative energy comes back to you.

Well I have been seeing this so very often. I have seen the direct, concrete results when I focus on the negative – the trials and tribulations of daily life and all that goes with it.

And I have seen the direct, concrete results when I focus on the positive – visualizing positive outcomes in challenging moments.

The Law of Attraction always works and works all of the time!

Like the Big Genie in the movie The Secret, The Universe says:
”Your wish is my command.”

So whatever positive or negative energy you’re focusing on, it never fails to come back to you!

And The Law Of Attraction is never more apparent but when it comes to relationships, friendships, and all the various people who cross your path.

When you look for the GOOD in people, you notice more and more of the GOOD in people.

When you expect the BAD from people, such as people letting you down and not being there for you, guess what you get back? More BAD from people. Why? Because that is what you notice and expect!

People who are pessimistic and expect people to use them and be untrustworthy, notice even more incidents of people using them and becoming untrustworthy.

If your heart is open and filled with LOVE, you will see what is BEAUTIFUL in every person who comes into – and is accepted into (again that AGREEMENT) –  and is in your life.

If you are stingy with your LOVE and expect people to pass all kinds of tests to “win” your love, you will get lots of people who you think are never “good enough” for you.

Want to change your energy from the negative to the positive?

Just for fun, try a little exercise:
The first person who crosses your path today, look deeply at them and find something BEAUTIFUL about them.
How does that make you feel?
Do you want more of that?

Well, apply that little exercise to every single person in your life!

The simple fact is that it is up to US to decide who and what we want in our lives.

Do you want to be happy?

Do you want to have a fair Agreement with every person and thing in your life? So that you benefit from their existence in your life?

Do you want to be fair to others and honor that Agreement you made to them, to hold up your end of the bargain?

Only YOU are responsible for deciding what kind of life you want to live!

As Mike Dooley says in both TUT(Totally Unique Thoughts).com and The Secret:

“Thoughts become things… choose the good ones!”

The Waters of LIFE

This blog is dedicated to my dear soul-sister, M, part of my life & heart for so many years, who inspired this. Je t’aime, ma chère, mon âme-sœur. xoxo.

Sometimes we need to remember who we are and WHY we came to this earth.

Sometimes we need to go back to the living waters. The waters of LIFE. To renew our spirits. To embrace whatever our Path brings us. To let the waters bring us strength for all that lies ahead…

Water is life, water is renewal. There is a reason why so many faiths use water to bring one of their new faithful into the fold. Water represents our birth into this life, this earth.

When we wash our hands, our tired feet at the end of a long hard day, when we wash away our body’s persistent aches and pains, we feel ALIVE. NEW. FRESH. We have become someone, something new, with possibilities.

I came to this earth to live a life that has not been an easy one at times.

At times I ask myself why? Why do I choose this? Why did I choose to live this particular life? Because choose it I did. I shaped it, shaped my life, shaped who I choose to be every day.

Just as you, reader reading this, have chosen as well. You chose YOUR life. You chose WHO you are today & who you will be tomorrow.

Who do you want to be?
Who do I want to be?

When I am troubled, when I lose my way, somehow I always head to the cleansing waters.

The waters help me to remember me. The ME I chose to be. I have so much more to give, more to say and more to share in this life.

Thank you waters of life, for washing away the past and showing me to fresh, new potential out there.

May the waters bless you as well, dear reader.

See You on the Other Side of the Light, Mr. Layton

I was stunned when I heard the news yesterday. Jack Layton, after a valiant fight with cancer for the second time, has passed away at the age of 61.

I felt like I just lost a friend. Why did I feel that way? I never had had the privilege of meeting Mr. Layton. I was never a die-hard NDPer. Fact is I only voted for the NDP once – in the last election.

Ah but that’s a bit of the reason why. I had voted for the first time in decades. And who I voted for was Jack.

He was our bon Jack, born right here in Montreal. He came from chez nous. Grew up in Quebec, went to university in Quebec.

In the last election, he united Quebec and Quebecers. He brought us back to the Canadian fold, in Parliament.

Most of all, he brought us HOPE.

And we WILL work with Canadians to build the country of our hopes
Of our dreams
Of our optimism
Of our determination
Of our values…
Of our love.

Thank you.
Jack Layton”
– from Jack Layton’s July 25 statement,
which announced he had a new cancer

Hope we hadn’t felt in a long time about our politicians on the national level. He talked about the potential of Canada and wonderful things that could be done for Canada and Canadians.

He was scrappy and a fighter. He had a great sense of humour. He had a glorious moustache. And he always had an awesome smile, with that twinkle in his eye.

I voted for Jack because of that HOPE. A hope I had not felt about our political system, on any level, in a long, long time.

I voted for his integrity, his honesty and transparency. His basic goodness. He was the best of all things – a TRUE Canadian.

One thing this blog, Anima Blue’s Oasis, is about, is about love & light, and bringing that love & light, into the world.

Jack Layton shared love & light with us all, as you could see in his speeches. As you can see in the statements he shared with us, at the end of his life.

How many politicians do you see anywhere, bringing love & light in the world?

My favorite tweet, which comes from The Right Honourable Michaëlle Jean :

@MichaelleJeanF Canada has lost a man of courage and great integrity who embodied the values dearest to Canadians. #hw #cdnpoli #jacklayton #layton

When he gave that speech on Election Night, I had cried tears of joy for Jack and the NDP, and for Canada.

And since yesterday, I have been crying tears of sorrow.

I cried when I read his farewell letter to Canadians.

And I have cried while writing this blog. I kept having to stop and start this blog again because I felt so overcome thinking about Canada losing Jack Layton.

We needed you so much, Jack. You had just claimed the first step of victory, in becoming Leader Of  The Opposition. You had so much more work left to do. I hope with all my heart that somehow the NDP Orange Wave will carry on without you. That they will make your dreams & great vision come true.

My friends, love is better than anger. Hope is better than fear. Optimism is better than despair. So let us be loving, hopeful and optimistic. And we’ll change the world.

All my very best,
Jack Layton”
– from Jack Layton’s Aug. 20 farewell letter to Canadians

By a sad coincidence, I seem to have been blogging a lot about grief & loss lately. See the poem I posted a short time ago: “don’t ask me to say good-bye”.

To echo my poem:

I won’t say good-bye to you, Mr. Layton.
I’ll say instead – so long.

Until we meet on the other side of the light, Mr. Layton.

All my love & sympathies go out to Jack Layton’s friends &  family.

Adios Akoha! The End of an Era of Kindness and Sharing…the kindest, friendliest Montreal Start Up that could…until it couldn’t any more. was founded by Austin Hill & Alex Eberts. They and other Akoha staff members, Mark MacLeod (VP Finance), Juan Pablo Di Lelle (Director of Engineering) and Alain Wong (Community Manager), practiced what they preached about Akoha, and could be found playing fun & friendly Missions on the site with other Akohans from around the world.

On Tues. Aug. 2, announced to its Community Users that after 3 years of operation would close its doors on August 15, 2011. Which is today. And I am sad. This is the end of an era of kindness….and sharing.

There are so many ways to describe Akoha.

In Akoha’s own words:
“Akoha is…a community of people who do fun things that make a positive difference. Engage in Akoha missions, give praise to others and earn rewards.”
– from

My journey with Akoha began in a funny way. I first heard about through a job posting I had come across and applied for. I was too late to apply for the job – the position was already filled. But I joined this site out of curiosity and soon became hooked!

Akoha went through different iterations through-out its 3 years. When I joined the site was still in its Beta stage and not yet open to the general public.

Akoha first began with playing Missions that were on a physical deck of cards. You could only join the site if you bought a deck – or if someone gave you a card. You had to enter the confirmation number from a card to enter & sign up to the site.

So the playing of Akoha was definitely based in real-time. The idea was to do an act of kindness (an Akoha Mission) and then Paying It Forward, by passing the card & Mission to someone else you hoped would keep playing.

Akoha went through many changes and versions until the cards were gone and the Missions were more universally played on a virtual or real-time level. At the time, I remember wondering where the revenue would come from, since Akoha no longer benefited from the playing card revenue. That’s where the money from Angel investors came in. But one day, that revenue just wasn’t enough and Akoha decided to call it a day.

While it lasted, Akoha was a very happy place to hang out with fellow Akohans. You could invite your real-time friends to join or share kind words with Akohans around the world.

The last iteration of was very Social Media savvy, with ties to Twitter, the blogosphere, and Facebook. The last look of Akoha was very Facebook-like, with status updates, the ability to send messages, and the ability to either tweet or share on Facebook Akoha Missions or Akoha status updates.

But foremost Akoha was about its Akohan Community. All the people who used the site.

We shared tasty dishes we had tried locally, shot photos of our world and planet, talked about great movies we had seen, spoke about special causes…and even shared a kind word when we knew one of our regular Akohan players, Bena, was sick.

And here are some of my fellow Akohan friends:

My final Akoha stats:

I love to read, write, do a little photography and I’m fascinated by synchronicity. One thing I like to do for fun is organize monthly events in my community. It’s an awesome feeling to bring new people together. I like to see where the universe takes me on my travels. 🙂 “What is a friend? A Tale of Two Lost Young Talents: Brittany Murphy and Amy Winehouse

They could have been contenders.

They were young women whose creative careers showed promise for a life-long body of work.

I have eclectic taste in the arts, most especially in film and music. I really couldn’t say just who or what would be to my taste. Brittany Murphy and Amy Winehouse were two young talents who touched me, who I wanted to enjoy seeing where they would go with their work. I thought they would both make “long bones”:  have long, successful careers that contributed interesting creative expression in their respective fields

And I was sad when each had their beautiful flames snuffed out too soon.

Brittany Murphy first caught my eye in 8 Mile. There was something about this girl. I wondered about her and made a mental note. And with time, I enjoyed seeing where she would go. And then she did a quirky little film called Love & Other Disasters. She reminded me of a young Audrey Hepburn, à la Breakfast at Tiffany’s, in it. I loved this original accent she used for the role. See the beginning of the movie to find out where the unusual accent came from. And I personally adopted one of her expressions from it: “hello babies!” I would say to my friends. It was such a cute and endearing thing to say. Loved it.

And then one day, a friend of mine posted on facebook that she had died. Shock and sadness. No really. I wanted to see where she would go! She had a kind of beauty that just got better as she aged, just like Audrey Hepburn. Long bones in talent, long bones in physical features. And suddenly the bones would no longer grow.

And I thought about Brittany when I heard the news about Amy Winehouse’s passing, not long ago.

Another beautiful young woman, with long bones. She was a fascinating combination of the retro and fresh. This wild girl with the bouffant hairdo, tattoos, and outrageously soulful voice. Where did she come from? ? She was so different from the usual pop princess. She had blues, she had soul. She could have become an Aretha or some other beautifully aging and timeless talent. But instead she became a young Billie Holiday. Gone too soon. Too too soon, baby. The soulful curves of your voice, your songwriting, I wanted to hear more, see what you would do with that creativity over a long, long life-time.

I read a comment somewhere when she died that said “Is anyone surprised?” That remark made me sad and mad on two levels.

One, it assumed that she had a drug-related death, due to her very public, messed up liefstyle. But we don’t know yet why she died. Fact is, reports said she had a clean bill of health from a doctor just a few days before her death. And she had started putting on a healthier weight, after her struggle with an eating disorder. The second reason I was sad & mad at the comment because it was so dismissive of her identity and her tremendous talent. This girl shouldn’t have died! When I had heard that her tour had been postponed recently because she had appeared drunk on stage, I felt so sad for this lost young woman. What tremendous pressure she must have been on, to come up with more fresh material. I heard she suffered from a debilitating writer’s block as well. Imagine that! When your very public bread and butter is writing, how do you cope. No, she did not have an easy life.

Well we can’t wish these girls back to life. All I can say is sleep now, girls. Rest, rest well and rest in peace.

Goodnight, babies.
